Rigorous, level-setting research

In advance of planned upgrades, our team wanted to get a clear understanding of how visitors were using African Hall, and what they were taking away from it. To explore this, I conducted a series of observations and interviews.
I found that visitors tended to engage very briefly and simplistically—findings mirrored by a timing and tracking study done in the hall 20 years prior. But, visitors loved the hall, despite how they drifted through it. Interactive exhibits held a clear pull, so we decided to pursue an interactive diorama that still hewed to the look and spirit of the original hall.
